I am an Associate Professor of Economics at Sonoma State University. I am also a research associate at the Claremont Institute for Economic Policy Studies. Prior to joining Sonoma State, I held research and teaching positions at Ithaca College, California State University Long Beach, and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta, Indonesia. My non-academic experience includes consulting for the Indonesian Ministry of Finance and PhD internships at the Milken Institute and Western Asset Management.
My primary area of research is in the fields of international finance, macroeconomics & monetary policy, and international political economy. Most of my work examines the role of political economy factors in explaining macroeconomic and financial outcomes. I am especially interested in studying causes and consequences of financial crises such as credit booms, financial regulations, elections, and political regime changes. Outside my primary research area, I have worked on globalization and welfare spending, economic integration in Southeast Asia and fiscal decentralization in Indonesia.
I speak and read French, am conversational in Italian and German, and Bahasa Indonesia is my native tongue.
